The Men’s outdoor season got underway on Friday at the brand new Fifa Graded Fields at the University of Guelph Soccer Complex! Brand new UMBRO kits were handed off and the first games of the year saw some exciting action!
The first game saw Derby Old Hat Drew Street Elite take on new comers Silvercreek Athletics. The Athletics started strong potting 2 quick goals, but Drew Street pulled one back to make it 2-1. Drew Street showed some tired legs as the game ranaway from them and finished 5-2. Great start for new team Silvercreek!
The 7:30 match saw Summer 2011 Champions Halton North End face off with another new Team: Guelphite Sports Academy. Both teams were evenly matched as they went into half tied 0-0. The second half saw a quick goal from Halton, putting them up 1-0, but it wasn’t long before Halton gave away a Penalty, which was converted to tie them at 1-1. A late goal from Guelphite put them ahead as they won 2-1 with a great come from behind victory.
The late match was an all out shoot-out as Central United FC took on the 3rd new side – Wanderers FC. The game started quickly with back and forth goals from both sides, however, Central proved to be too much for the newcomers as they blasted to an 8-2 finish.
